Study Abroad

In the third year, students had the opportunity to study the first semester at a university abroad. They could choose a partner university, where no additional fees were required, or a university of their choice. For a university of their choice, students had to make contact themselves and pay tuition fees to both UM and the other university.

Motivation letter

Students were asked to write a detailed motivation letter of one to two pages explaining their educational and personal reasons for participating in the Semester Abroad programme. The letter was to address the following questions:

Why is participating in a semester-abroad programme important to you?
How would this programme complement your academic experience to date?
What are your expectations for personal growth?
Which academic areas or subjects are you interested in?

2022 locations and selection

In 2022, the available cities were Reykjavik, Rome, and Copenhagen. When applying for an exchange, students had to indicate their top three locations. The university selected placements based on grades and the motivation letter. Generally, a GPA of at least 7.5 was required, although exceptions could sometimes be made.

Choosing a location

Students who went on exchange often considered their own location the best one. The exchange experience was described as valuable, so the final location was presented as less important than the overall experience. When making a choice, consider expenses in the other country, the courses at the university, student life, and the city itself.
